PNa’s Jared Schmidt had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with Annamarie, a local high school student interested in pursuing a career in Architecture. Jared shared his personal career experiences, what schooling is like, and the path to professional licensure.
What is the biggest challenge going thorough school? "The biggest challenge going through Architecture School was your time commitment for Studio. Late nights in Studio leave you little time for hobbies or time with friends."
What do you tell someone who wants to become a licensed architect? "My advice would be to understand the licensing process and the time it takes to get licensed. Work out a plan after you finish with school that includes your path to licensure."
What is the best thing about being an architect? "Everyone gets to interact on a personal level with what you have designed. Whether it be a residential project for a family to enjoy some of their greatest moments, or a healthcare project which allows you to be a part of the healing process for a family going through some of their most difficult times. I find this field very rewarding."
Jared currently is the AIA Central Section’s 2018 President and in addition to his project leadership, serves as Pivot North’s AXP mentor for those in the office currently pursuing licensure.
